Welcoming Geoffrey Smith – A leader in Security, Counter terrorism, and Emergency Management

We’re proud to welcome Geoffrey Smith, Managing Partner at Alexander James and Partners, as the newest member of the Global Consortium Group.

Geoff brings more than four decades of experience in policing, public safety, and security to our growing collective of experts.

A former and deeply experienced Tasmania Police Commander and the state’s Counter-Terrorism Command lead, Geoff is widely respected for his work in counter-terrorism operations, risk management, emergency response, and public safety strategy.

Throughout his career, Geoff has played a pivotal role in shaping national security policy. He served as a senior advisor to the Australia New Zealand Counter-Terrorism Committee and was a principal author of Australia’s Strategy for Protecting Crowded Places from Terrorism. He’s led national reviews of the private security industry, enhanced protective security capabilities across Australia, and presented both nationally and internationally on safeguarding public spaces.

Geoff’s leadership also extended to police education and multi-agency emergency management as manager of the State Crisis Centre and more.

Today, as a co-founder of Alexander James and Partners, Geoff continues to provide strategic risk advisory services to both government and private sector clients.

His deep knowledge of security policy, crisis response, and inter-agency collaboration makes him a tremendous asset to GCG and our mission to unite leading professionals in support of the policing, emergency services, and security industries.

Geoff recently joined GCG members Gary Ritchie and Ian Hackett for a conversation on Police-Informed Security Design – a webinar launching this Friday to help organisations design safer infrastructure, projects, and events. Stay tuned!

Welcome to the team Geoff.
