Peter Dein

Peter, as a law enforcement consultant, has provided advice and review on national security threats and procedures, risk management, investigative processes, technology based policing needs, and facilitated scenario exercises for government, law enforcement agencies and private industry.

He served 41 years in the New South Wales (NSW) Police Force, with 20 years’ experience in executive command, finishing as the Assistant Commissioner and lead for the State’s Counter Terrorism (CT) command.

With the Australian Federal Police, Australian Security Intelligence Organisation and the NSW Crime Commission he established the nation’s largest Joint CT Team in Sydney.

His policing service included decades of specialist investigative practice in the major crime and high-risk national security commands. He was the most senior ranked detective responsible for coordinating the State’s serious and organised crime squads.

Following his police career, Peter received a two-year statutory appointment as an Assistant Commissioner at the NSW Crime Commission which assists law enforcement with specialist investigative and analytical resources and possesses special commission of inquiry powers to assist policing agencies to reduce organised and serious crime.

He has contributed to the development of policy, training and workshops for Australia’s National CT Committee. He is a member of an expert advisory group assisting government to counter violent extremism.

He is a graduate of the FVEY’s global program for Leadership in CT, was its Alumni Association’s (LinCT-AA) president, and remains a member of the LinCT-AA executive advisory board involved in planning and running international CT re-trainer conferences in the northern and southern hemispheres.

His academic achievements include a Bachelor of Laws, he was admitted to the Bar of the NSW Supreme Court, and he holds various law enforcement citations for operational expertise and leadership.

In the Australia Day Honours list, he was awarded the Australian Police Medal for distinguished service to major crime investigation.
